Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) Add this

G4S has been pioneering Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) schemes with the Department of Health, aiding the provision of much needed investment in new NHS facilities and services

G4S signed the UK’s first LIFT joint venture agreement with Newham, Hackney and City and Tower Hamlets Primary Care Trusts in May 2003. Under LIFT schemes the private sector bids for long term concession to provide partnering, equity and other services to Primary Care Trusts.

Our contract has led to a number of new facilities being opened, with others under construction across East London. These facilities were developed using a ‘service planning’ model whereby the health and social needs of the area drove the design of the buildings and the service configuration.

The resulting buildings are multi-functional and flexible with primary and often some secondary care facilities included, as well as the potential for social enterprise group space. Our aim is for our buildings to act as community hubs for health and wellbeing and provide a focus for local pride and regeneration.

Our contract has delivered award winning buildings that provide an excellent platform for delivering primary care services.

The Barkantine clinic, part of East London and The City LIFT scheme, won the LIFT Award 2008 for Innovation.  It was also one of the first schemes in the country to gain Forestry Stewardship Council Certification.

“It’s a totally different way of practising medicine and a much better method of providing services to patients that opens up a whole variety of opportunities for developing primary care”.
