Non-emergency patient transport services - St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust
G4S provides flexible healthcare logistics solutions that meet its customers' evolving requirements
We provide non-emergency patient transport services to St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust, a large, single site, acute teaching hospital in London.
Following contract commencement patient journey numbers gradually increased, reaching 20% above the original activity indicated in the contract.
In order to maintain the high quality standards which drive our operations we worked closely with the Trust to find a flexible solution that met their needs. We developed a solution incorporating a web booking system which significantly reduced the number of inappropriate journey bookings and together we reduced activity to normal levels.
Over time the profile of the patients changed and we reviewed and adjusted our ambulance fleet to match the mobility needs of the patients and the requirements of the Trust. This included:
St George’s Hospital now has an increasingly active Bariatric Surgical Unit and G4S has commissioned additional specialist ambulances to transport higher numbers of very heavy patients.
Levels of customer satisfaction, captured in our annual customer survey, have increased every year since we won the contract to deliver services at St George’s.
The contract holds the British Safety Council (BSC) Five Star standard, ISO9001:2008 registration and Investors in People.
