Oakhill wins approval02 July 2010
G4S Care & Justice Services are delighted to announce that Oakhill Secure Training Centre in Milton Keynes has been given the Government's official seal of approval for the health education given to youngsters at the centre
The Oakhill team have been awarded the National Healthy School Status - becoming the first secure training centre in the country to receive it. The award recognises the teams work in the areas of personal, social and health education, healthy eating, physical activity and emotional health and well being.
Val Thomas, Head of Education at Oakhill said: "We are thrilled to have been awarded this status and to be the UK’s first STC to have received it is an outstanding achievement. The team should be really proud of the long term commitment and hard work which has resulted in this award.
"Gaining this award is not just about recognition, it's about changing the long term outcomes for young people by improving health, reducing health inequalities, increasing social inclusion and raising achievement."
The National Healthy Schools Programme is a joint initiative between the former Department of Children, Schools and Families, now The Department for Education, and the Department of Health.
