Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Add this

G4S provides integrated facilities management (FM) services to schools in Leicester as part of their involvement in the Government's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) initiative

We are part of a consortium that won a 25 year contract to design, build and maintain the schools.  The £235m project will rebuild or remodel all 16 secondary schools in the city.

Our role in the Leicester Miller Education Company consortium is to provide hard and soft FM services, including:

  • Cleaning, waste and pest control
  • Building and asset management
  • Caretaking and portering
  • Energy and utilities
  • FM management service
  • Health and safety
  • Grounds maintenance
  • Security management
  • Helpdesk
  • Life cycle management

The four schools in Phase 1 opened in 2009, on-time and on-budget.  One school, Beaumont Leys, opened a full term ahead of schedule - the first BSF school to open early.

Beaumont Leys won Best School and Grand Prix for Best BSF project in the 2009 Excellence in BSF Awards. A further school within our Leicester BSF programme, Soar Valley College, was short listed for Best Use of Outside Space and Innovation in PE & Sport.

We work in partnership with schools, local authorities and LEPS to maintain an excellent standard of service delivery throughout the life of the contract.

"We have established a very good working relationship with G4S over the last couple of years through the facilities management work in defining the service and assisting with the design and layouts within the BSF programme of ours and other educational establishments. The work they will undertake maintaining our schools for staff and pupils and the community will be invaluable and we look forward to working with them closely over the coming years to make our school an excellent environment for learning and development."
 - Liz Logie, Head teacher, Beaumont Leys

We have now signed a contract deliver facilities management services to two schools under phase one of the London Borough of Greenwich’s BSF project.  The new schools are due to open in 2011.
