G4S understands the key role that nutrition plays in patient health and speed of recovery. It is essential that hospital catering services take account of the needs of vulnerable patients and those with special dietary needs, including therapeutic diets.
We have been running catering services at Mile End Hospital in East London since May 2006. Our services actively promote healthy choices and ensure that patients, staff and visitors receive nutritional food.
Our menus are designed in accordance with standards of the Better Hospital Food Guidance, Food Safety Agency, National Patient Safety Agency and any other statutory bodies. They provide choices to meet a wide range of requirements, including healthy eating, ethnic and cultural considerations, specialist diets, prescribed therapeutic diets, religious, vegetarian and vegan options.
A company dietitian, with extensive experience of catering and nutrition in a healthcare environment, provides advice and guidance across our contracts.
A robust food safety system was developed with the support of an Environmental Health Officer. This system ensures the highest standards of hygiene and food safety are maintained. It received B.S EN ISO 22000:2005 registration in 2009. ISO 22000 is an independent, internationally recognised standard which involves system management, communication and the control of food safety hazards and ensures the continual improvement and updating of the food safety management system.
In a 2009 PEAT inspection Mile End Hospital received scores of ‘Excellent’ in all three categories: Food, Environment and Privacy & Dignity.
