Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust
G4S provides about 100,000 patient transport journeys a year for Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, including specialist transport for babies in need of special care
G4S provides services for out-patients, such as admissions, transfers and discharges, often within tight time scales. Inter-hospital transfers are provided by the G4S Intermediate Transfer Service.
Renal service
About 75% of the services we provide to the Trust are for patients in need of renal dialysis, who travel between their home and the hospital, and back again, three times per week. We also provide services for transplant patients, who need to attend hospital regularly for check-ups and medication.
The service is planned and operated from St Helier Hospital, with a dedicated planner for renal patient movements. This not only ensures continuity of service - it allows the team to develop a relationship with their regular patients and the renal staff, to understand their needs, and to deliver a more effective service.
Special Care Baby Unit
Following an increase in the number of patients requiring transport from St Mary’s Children’s Hospital a Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) service was established. The SCBU service transfers premature babies, children in need of high levels of care and medical teams to and from neonatal units in London and the south of England. The G4S team are trained to First Person on the Scene (FPOS) standard as patients usually require incubators, monitoring and ventilation. The vehicles are equipped with blue lights which can be used if the medical team deems it necessary.
Working in partnership
G4S works closely with the Trust, and supports them both in the day-to-day provision of high-quality services and in ensuring business continuity and disaster recovery. G4S formed part of the Major Incident Team during the 7/7(05) bombing incident in central London. All off-duty staff made themselves available and assisted the Trust during this period.
Accreditation
The G4S team holds the British Health & Safety Council 5 Star Award, British Standards ISO9001: 2008 registration and the Investors in People award.
