Cardiff Launch For G4S Jobs Awareness Relay
20 January 2012
G4S, the world’s leading security solutions provider, continued its 2012 baton relay on 20 January in Cardiff to help raise awareness of career opportunities for disabled people in the security sector
G4S, the world’s leading security solutions provider, continued its 2012 baton relay on 20 January in Cardiff to help raise awareness of career opportunities for disabled people in the security sector.
The relay idea was originally devised by Remploy, the specialist employment services company, to celebrate the achievements of disabled people. More than 1,000 batons were handed out by Remploy last November and each person receiving one was asked to share an inspirational story of a disabled person, or an organisation linked to disability.
Valerie Dale, HR Director at G4S Secure Solutions (UK), passed the baton to Paul Nelson, Regional Operations Manager G4S Government & Outsourcing Services, at the Cardiff Remploy offices.
Success stories of disabled people who have started new careers with G4S will be highlighted on the baton as each month it is passed between the company’s different businesses across Britain, culminating in a final handover before the start of the London Olympics and Paralympics this summer.
After the Cardiff handover, further baton exchanges will be held in Coventry, Manchester, Glasgow, Newcastle, Slough and London attended by representatives from G4S, Remploy and clients of G4S who are supporting the initiative.
Greg Austin, HR Director at G4S Government and Outsourcing Services, said: “We are both excited and proud to be involved in the Remploy initiative. This baton exchange is the first leg in a journey that hopes to drive the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. As the baton circulates around the country we hope our involvement with Remploy will raise awareness with other organisations of the importance and benefits of making sustainable employment opportunities available to disabled people.”
Ian Fereday, partnership manager at Remploy, added: “We see the relay as a fun way of encouraging businesses to place diversity at the top of their agenda.
“We are delighted that G4S has enthusiastically embraced the idea and believe that their involvement will highlight the many employment opportunities that are available within the company for disabled jobseekers.”
The final handover will take place in London in July when G4S will return the baton to Remploy.
