Brave neighbourhood warden wins national award

Kay-Ann Beckford-Reid, a brave neighbourhood warden from Brent has won a national ‘Outstanding Act’ award in the British Security Industry Association’s (BSIA) Annual Security Officer Awards 2009.

Kay-Ann, who won the award for rescuing a young girl being attacked by a crowd of thirty youths in the course of her duties, was undertaking warden patrols for Brent Housing Partnership. She came across a group of youths kicking and punching a 17-year old girl. Kay-Ann bravely intervened, rescuing the girl and leading her to safety with the gang of youths still in pursuit. She then called the emergency services.

Rob Pelosi, G4S Contract Manager, comments: "Kay-Ann displayed quick-thinking and sound judgement and was able to prevent a young girl from receiving further more serious injuries. She acted with a sense of duty and another person's safety in mind and risked injury to herself in order to halt the attack."

Jane Lambert, Neighbourhood Warden Service Manager for Brent Housing Partnership, says: "Kay-Ann has always shown passion and commitment for her work and never failed to go that extra mile. She is truly inspirational and has made an outstanding contribution to reducing anti-social behaviour and crime in the area that she patrolled."

Kay-Ann was presented with her award by Admiral the Lord West of Spithead, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State responsible for security at the Home Office, at the Association’s annual luncheon on 15th July at the London Hilton, Park Lane

The BSIA would like to thank Camberford Law plc – specialist insurance brokers to the security industry – for sponsoring the awards for the eleventh successive year.
