our carbon footprint

Through operational year-on-year growth, we anticipate our direct carbon emissions to grow proportionately in line with revenue. We achieved a carbon intensity of 68.4 t/CO2e per £m of revenue in 2016, representing a percentage decrease of 3.6% since 2015. We recognise the impact that our business activities can have on the environment. G4S’ total carbon footprint during 2016 equates to 503,821 t/CO2e. This is a positive achievement which recognises the efforts made to increase the energy and fuel efficiency of our business.

We use Green House Gas protocol methodology to undertake a measurement of our Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions – vehicle fleet, fuel, refrigerants, and electricity usage for G4S occupied businesses over which we have operational control on an annual basis.

In addition we also measure Scope 3 emissions from employee business air travel. Increased use of video conferencing and virtual meeting technology has helped us reduce the carbon emissions generated by our business air travel by 13% since 2014.

Reducing energy in our UK business

The G4S UK fleet utilises satellite tracking to enable real-time monitoring and feedback on driver behaviour, reducing traffic accidents and increasing fuel efficiency.
