The Golf open
the 145th troon
I felt the need to drop you a line to thank you and your team at G4S Events for the part you have all played in a very successful Open this year at Royal Troon.
I wanted to ensure that you were aware of our thanks to both them and their senior management for the way in which each year they manage their staff and the inevitable last minute requests that come to both of them from myself and colleagues.
As at any Open venue, there are significant challenges specific to that site and at Troon this year the inclusion of a busy road and residential area within the confines of the footprint was one of those challenges which was met head-on by Sam, Kenny and their colleagues. From what I saw on the ground and feedback from colleagues and friends this aspect of the Open operation was delivered very well indeed.
what else did they say
Myself and all of my colleagues at The R&A are acutely aware of the fact that we simply would not be able to produce the spectacle each year that we do without the considerable help and expertise from all of our contractors, consultants, volunteers, host Club personnel, multi-agency partners and all of their staff throughout the year. For that you have my sincere and grateful thanks.
This year’s Open Championship will rightly be remembered for a very long time in many ways due to the fantastic golf played over the weekend by Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson but also because of how wonderfully presented The Open site was on the ground and how it was delivered to the 500 million potential households through the television coverage. Every aspect of this year’s Championship was world-class and each and every individual that contributed to this process should be extremely proud of the finished article.
The team and I very much look forward to building on this further for Royal Birkdale in 2017 and working again with many of you towards yet another successful Open Championship.
Once again, many thanks to everyone involved and please know that your efforts are much appreciated.
